Apparently, in the 1960s, it was fashionable for top international artists to record promotional tracks for the ‘teeny-bopper’ market. I don’t know if the Coca-Cola company were first to do this, but they were definitely the main users of this type of advertising during the nineteen sixties era…..
After other stars like Roy Orbison, The Tremeloes and many others recorded their tracks, it soon became ‘uncool’ to do this anymore or to be involved with large company advertising campaigns.
There is even a compilation album of the Coca-Cola artists and their songs, namely the ‘Things Go Better With Coke: Sixties Coca-Cola Commercials, 1965-'69’ album. Amazingly, you can even get a copy on Amazon!!!!
The songs are a great blast from the past, but I think I’d go bonkers listening to about 63 tracks about a soft-drink, LOL!
Great picture of Tom on the video though and a seriously good sun-tan going on here!
